2020 World Economic Summit
Davos Focused on Sustainability and Climate Change
Several Global Corporations Rising to the Challenge
The 2020 World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland is now underway. It opened with President Donald Trump saying "America is thriving, flourishing and winning again", just hours before his impeachment trial began in Washington, DC. The Forum is focused on sustainability, sustainable business and accelerating action globally to thwart Climate Change. There are more than 2,000 participants including 113 billionaires. Interestingly on the eve of the Forum, several global companies have announced detailed plans to combat Climate Change.
Nestle, Amazon, Microsoft, Black Rock
Swiss food giant Nestle is investing $2 billion to use recycled plastics and cut its use of new plastics by 1/3rd by 2025. It's an impressive move by the global food leader to reduce global plastic pollution. Amazon just announced that it's going carbon neutral by 2040. As part of that, it has ordered 40 electric vans from Deutsche Post's Streetscooter unit for deliveries in Munich. Meanwhile, Microsoft has committed to removing the equivalent of its entire carbon footprint since it went into business in 1975. By 2030, it will remove more carbon It expects to completely erase it by 2050. Finally, Black Rock, the world's largest asset manager, announced that it is making fighting climate change a key part of the firm's strategy. Essentially, the firm with $7 Trillion under management, is escalating its holdings in green, sustainable investment vehicles.
