FDA Okays Gilead's Remdesivir Drug Source:  Gilead Sciences Remdesivir Good News in COVID-19 Fight Finally, some good news to report on the war against COVID-19.  The US Food and Drug Administration has given emergency approval to Gilead Sciences' remdesivir drug to treat  patients with the coronavirus.  President Donald Trump made the announcement. Gilead CEO Daniel O'Day promised that the company is going to donate one  million vials of the drug for treating  patients. Results Tell the Story The FDA emergency order means that doctors can use the drug even though it hasn't gone through the FDA's formal, time-consuming approval process.  The results on this unique drug tell the story. An independent analysis by the US National  Institute of Allergy & Infectious Diseases showed that COVID patients who took the drug usually recovered after 11 days. Promising Oxford University Vaccine Source:  Gilead Sciences Successful Gilead Sciences Treatment In the war against COVID-19, some good news.  Gilead Sciences' remdesivir has shown improvement in patients taking it to treat the virus. That, according to Gilead's own study.  On top of that, testing by the National Institution of Allergy and Infectious Disease also gave the drug "positive data" results in their own testing.  This news raised hopes on Wall Street that a treatment/cure is near and that the economy may be able to open safely again.  At the start of trading, the DJIA shot up 400 points and Gilead shares were up 9.3%. Chinese Scientists Developing Promising Treatment Source:  Stock image of coronavirus "Extremely Effective" Antibodies Discovered to Fight the Disease A team of Chinese scientists at Tsinghau University in Beijing have isolated several antibodies that are "extremely effective" at blocking the coronavirus from entering cells.  They believe they may be on the right track for treating and even preventing the disease.  Globally, more than 850,000 have been infected by COVID-19 and 42,000 have died.  To date, there is no known, effective and proven treatment for the disease which originated in Wuhan, China Next Steps to Mass Production The team analyzed blood from patients who recovered from the coronavirus.  They pinpointed 206  antibodies with a strong  ability to bind with the virus' protein. More Research and Development The study documents that targeting the gene, WWPI, with the compound found in broccoli suppressed tumor growth in cancer-prone lab animals.  Broccoli and other vegetables in its category like cauliflower, cabbage and kale, have long been associated with possibly cutting the risk of cancer.
