 New Technology to Explore the Ocean & Its Inhabitants                                                  Source:  U-BOAT WORX U-BOAT WORX of the Netherlands A Dutch company has launched what looks like a luxury sports car to explore the ocean.  It's called the Super Sub and it is straight out of a James Bond 007 movie.  It was invented and is being manufactured by U-BOAT WORX of Breda, the Netherlands which specializes in submersibles. The company is billing Super Sub as the most hydrodynamic private sub on the market.  The vessel has a transparent cabin that provides occupants panoramic views of the surrounding ocean and its inhabitants. Blue Innovation From the Commonwealth Nations Source:  Secretary General's Paper on  Blue Ocean Initiative Commonwealth Blue Charter The Secretary General of the Commonwealth nations Patricia Scotland just laid out what she sees as new opportunities to invest in the emerging Blue Ocean Economy.  She notes that 95% of the world's oceans are still unexplored.  The value of global ocean assets is conservatively valued at $24 Trillion and the global ocean economy is worth $2.5 Trillion a year, according to experts cited by Secretary General Scotland. There is a series of investment opportunity ideas that the 53 Commonwealth nations have signed on to in their new Commonwealth Blue Charter. The Commonwealth nations that span the UK to Canada, Kenya, India and Australia include 1/3rd of all world coastal waters and 42% of all coral reefs within their jurisdictions.  Their commitment to the Blue Ocean Charter has the potential of a big impact. Electric, Solar-Powered, Vegan Interior, Affordable Source:  Fisker Ocean Now at CES 2020 Fisker, the designer and manufacturer of electric vehicles and advanced mobility solutions headquartered in LA, is unveiling an all-electric, luxury SUV, the Fisker Ocean, at CES 2020 in Las Vegas this week. The vehicle is solar powered and has a full length solar panel on the roof.  Fisker is also partnering with Electrify America, which is the largest, open DC fast charging network in the US.  Electrify America will have 3500 chargers in 45 states by 2021. Ocean Affordable And Environmentally Correct The all-electric SUV can deliver up to 300 miles of driving on a 30 minute charge. The company has priced it for affordability.  The SUV starts at $37,499 but with a US federal tax credit the price drops to $29,999. World Ocean Day Source:  Monterey Bay Aqarium - Monterey Shoreline Once Pristine Locations from Monterey, CA to Spain's Basque Coast Facing Plastic Pollution World Ocean Day was marked yesterday around the world.  And sadly the state of world oceans is not good.  Once pristine ocean locations are loaded with pollution.  Two new cases of note. Monterey Bay Monterey Bay, California has been considered an environmental success story because the fish and sardine populations have made a comeback.  Unfortunately that's not the whole story.  Marine biologists from the Monterey Bay Aquarium just tested the water at 3200 feet and found alarming concentrations of microplastics.  They found the plastic pollution concentration to be worst than that of the "Great Pacific Garage Patch", the huge floating mass of plastic and other debris floating in the Pacific Ocean.
