Robots & AI Creating & Costing Jobs

Manager & Supervisor Jobs At Risk Source: Robot Stock Image Fascinating New Study from Penn's Wharton School of Management A new study by the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Management finds that it is managers and supervisors, not lower level employees, who are losing their jobs to robots and artificial intelligence.  The reason:  fewer numbers of managers can oversee larger portions of business operations with the help of AI and robotics expanding in their enterprise. Business Expansion With Robots The study's results are compelling.  The analysis covered businesses in Canada that used and didn't use robots and AI over the past 20 years.  Lead researcher Professor Lynn Wu found that firms deploying robots expanded their human workforce.  Those that did not deploy robots ended up with shrinking businesses and had to cut workers. Less Managers and Supervisors Needed According to the authors, the most surprising finding is that using AI and rob...

Medical Breakthrough on Food Allergies

Image
In the Gut Source:  Good Bacteria in Stomach stock imageAdd caption Good Bacteria For those who suffer from food allergies, this is very promising medical research news.  Researchers at Brigham & Women's Hospital and Boston Children's Hospital have found a missing link.  In infants and children with food allergies, a key bacteria - so called "good bacteria" -  are missing in the gut. Closing in on a Cure Food allergies are a rising epidemic in the US.  32 million Americans have food allergies and nearly 8% of all American children have them. The Boston based research is still in the preliminary stage.  But the scientists say having identified the problem they are hopeful that they can quickly develop a treatment solution.  They're focusing on microbial therapies to protect kids from developing the problem and to reverse the disease in adults.  For a free Kindle borrow of my book "List of Top New Medical Innovations", go to  ama...

Heredity and Dog Ownership

Image
New Swedish-British Scientific Research Source:  Stock Image Owning a Dog is in Your Genes This is fascinating and very substantive research based on 35,035 pairs of twins from the Swedish Twin Registry, which is the world's largest. Uppsala University along with scientists from the University of Liverpool studied whether being a dog owner is a hereditary trait. their research pool was the thousands of twins.  They concluded that owning a dog is in your genes. Man's Best Friend Their study of the 35,000 plus pairs of twins and their dog ownership documented that the choice of owning a dog is heavily influenced by your genetic makeup.  The scientists say genetic variation explains more than half of the variation in dog ownership among the group of twins studied. For 15,000 years, dogs have been companions to mankind.  That's a lot of history, loyalty and heredity on both sides.

Bees Can Count

Image
Busy Intelligent Bees Source: Queen Mary University of London: Bees Counting New UK Research This is an amazing discovery.  Researchers at Queen Mary University of London have discovered bees can count.  They do so by using just 4 nerve cells in their brains.  The team made the discovery using computer simulations of the bee brain. Insect Inspired Miniature "Brain" Simulated on Computer Turns out bees can solve clever counting tasks.  This research was just published in the journal Science.  They can count small numbers of items when checking out one object, then inspecting the next object and doing the count, and so on.  This is very different from how humans count.  We glance at all the items and count them together. Bees Are Intelligent The researchers have concluded that bees have impressive cognitive abilities with minimal brain power.  Their findings demonstrate the intelligence of bees.  This innovative research approach ...
