CANADA'S TRAIN-PLANE COMBO - FLUXJET

Image
New Ultra-High-Speed Travel Hybrid                                                       Source:  TransPod Hits Speeds of 662 mph Toronto, Canadian startup TransPod has developed a hybrid train-plane vehicle that can hit speeds of 662 mph.  It's the fully electric powered FluxJet that can travel at speeds six-times that of a train and faster than a jet. The transportation system is based on a new field of physics called "veillance flux".  It is very similar to Elon Musk's original concept of vacuum tube based hyperloop travel, which time-starved Musk told other people to try and develop. Apparently, TransPos did and they're getting the system ready for takeoff in Canada with hopes to carry passengers there in 2035.  Technology Deployed The FluxJet travels in an elevated protected tube guideway using groun...

Mystery Radio Signals From Space

Image
Tracked by a Powerful Telescope in Canada                            Source:  CHIME & 1st Radio Signal Burst Intergalactic Mystery International researchers using a high powered, new Canadian telescope named CHIME, have detected hundreds of fast and mysterious radio bursts in space that quickly disappear.  These bright flashes of light last for a millisecond.  The quickness of the signal makes it unpredictable and extremely difficult to track the origin and determine the reason why. As a result, astronomers are baffled and the source remains shrouded in mystery. These fast radio signals from space have a name - FRB's.  140 FRB bursts of lighted radio signals in space were observed between 2008 and 2018.  Experts believe, because of the CHIME telescope, the vast majority of radio bursts have gone undetected, until now. CHIME in British Columbia The highly advanced telescope CHIME ...

Electric Future of Personal Mobility

Boat Designed  To Reduce Shipping Industry's Carbon Footprint                                               Source:  Sailcargo, Inc. Capable of Carrying 350 Tons On the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, an international team of 200 workers from 27 nations are building a hybrid sailboat.  It's an international project designed to demonstrate that it is possible to transport cargo without polluting the environment.  The 148 foot vessel will rely mostly on wind-power but it will also have two electric engines for moving around ports and for power in low wind conditions.  The hybrid vessel is capable of transporting 350 tons of cargo. Zero Emissions Cargo Transport The company Sailcargo Inc. was founded and is led by CEO and professional ship captain Danielle Dogget of Canada.  She aims to make the hybrid sailboat called Ceiba "...

From Food Waste, BioPlastics

Image
Biodegradable Plastics for Everyday Use Source:  Genecis New Innovation from Canada Canadian based tech company Genecis has invented a process to convert food waste, destined to be dumped in a landfill, to green, clean bioplastics.  The plastic material can be used for packaging, food services, agriculture and many other uses.  The food waste is processed and put through bioreactor fermentation to create commercial plastic products. Patented Technologies Genecis has patented technologies not only to  convert food waste into biodegradable plastics but also other high value materials.  The new bioplastic composts within a month and  biodegrades within a year should it find its way into the ocean.  Experts say this is the first, cost competitive PHA, green plastic available. 18 Billion Tons of Plastic Waste Every year, 18 billion tons of plastic waste are ending up as pollution in global oceans. Genecis says its missi...

Change Toothpaste for Environment - Tubeless

Image
New Invention:  Tablet Toothpaste, Tubeless Toothpaste Source:  Change Toothpaste Potentially Cuts 900 Million Plastic Toothpaste Tube Throwaways Per Year Tubes of toothpaste aren't something you think about but their impact on the global environment is hugely negative.  900 million toothpaste tubes are discarded into oceans and landfills globally every year.  Importantly, it takes 500 years for them to breakdown, which means virtually every toothpaste tube created is still discarded someplace in the world.  And, the tubes, which contain multiple layers of plastic, polymers and resins, can't be recycled.  A company headquartered in Edmonton, Alberta Canada just came up with a solution in the form of tablet toothpaste. "Paste with No Waste" Entrepreneurs Mike Medicoff and Damien Vince are the inventors and founders of CHANGE Toothpaste. Their tablet toothpaste is an all natural vegan substance that works just like toothpaste but has n...

Selfie Measures Your Blood Pressure

Image
Preventive Health Care Through Your Smartphone Source:  University of Toronto Innovation from Canada and China Checking your blood pressure may soon be as easy as just taking a selfie on your smartphone.  Researchers at the University of Toronto in Canada, along with Chinese researchers, have developed a new app that's breakthrough.  All that's required is a quick video selfie of the face on the iPhone.  The device has been tested successfully on nearly 2000 Canadian and Chinese adults. 96% Accuracy Rate The app uses the smartphone's ability to detect red light reflected by blood (hemoglobin) under the skin surface.  The technology is called transdermal optical imaging and was invented by Prof. Kang Lee of the University of Toronto. An algorithm measures the blood pressure level.  The accuracy rate is 95% to 96%.  This new innovation provides preventative health care on an app in your hand. It can also be connected to your physician to allo...

NASA Plans New Space Station

Image
Lunar Orbiter, Lander & Astronaut Habitat Source:  NASA Lunar Orbiter Concept Man on the Moon in 2024 NASA's plan is for a mini-space station that would orbit the moon with astronauts onboard for 30 to 60 day stays as they travel back and forth to the surface of the Moon. The new space station will be a lunar orbiter, lander and astronaut habitat. It's called the Lunar Orbital Platform - Gateway that NASA wants to use to speed travel and exploration of the Moon.  The Trump Administration wants humans on the Moon again by 2024. Gateway on a Fast Track NASA wants the 1st phase of Gateway - the  Power & Propulsion phase - to launch in 2022.  NASA is expected to select an industry proposal on phase 1 next spring  The 2nd phase is the lunar habitat where the astronauts will live, work and do scientific experiments, on and near the Moon.  In 2024, it's expected that both components will be launched on a commercial rocket. International P...

Canada's Quantum Tech to Space

Image
New Satellite Launch 2022 Source:  Canadian Space Agency Goal:  Protect Communications Networks Canada will launch a new satellite in 2022 that will use quantum technology to protect national and commercial communications networks.  It's called the Quantum Encryption and Science Satellite or QEYSSat. Microsatellite Honeywell has received a $23 million contract from the Canadian Space Agency to design, develop and deliver the microsatellite.  It will create a link between the ground and space to transmit encryption keys. Critical Mission The 2022 mission will test quantum technology.  The purpose is to develop a system to protect commercial and government communications infrastructure.  The Canadian government believes that current encryption methods will be obsolete within the decade because of the tremendous processing power of quantum computers.  That will put passwords and other security safeguards at risk. Quantum Encryption Canada...

Clean Energy thru Food Fermentation

Image
New Process Converts Food Waste to Clean Energy Source:  University of Waterloo, Canada Microbial Cocktails A team of engineers at the University of Waterloo in Canada have invented an affordable system to turn food waste into a clean energy source.  They've devised a "microbial cocktail" that produces a biodegradable chemical through fermenting the waste food.  The chemical can be refined into a clean source of energy that could replace fossil fuels.  The chemical could also replace petroleum based chemicals in many products like plastic packaging and drugs. Wasted Food, Wasted Resources The numbers are staggering.  Wasted food amounts to a global economic loss of $1.4 trillion per year.  In North America, food waste amounts to 400 kilograms per person every year.  There have been many attempts to convert food scraps into fuel but they have proved much too expensive.  This new technology from Canada is affordable, according to the ...
