Planet "Raining Diamonds": NASA Discovery
Saturn with an Unforgiving Environment Source: MIT Discovery Just Unveiled NASA scientists have discovered that Saturn's mysterious atmosphere is raining diamonds down on the planet. This discovery is extraordinary and yet another example of the vast mineral deposits in space that commercial space ventures are targeting. Saturn Rings While studying how and when Saturn's rings of ice and dust emerged, the NASA scientists stumbled upon a surprising feature of Saturn's atmosphere. The atmosphere is composed of high amounts of sulfur, along with hydrogen and helium. The atmosphere is extremely harsh and unforgiving. So much so it rains diamonds onto the planet. NASA's Cassini probe made the shocking discovery when taking a closer look at Saturn's weather in 2013. The discovery was just released this summer in a BBC documentary. From Soot to Diamonds Saturn is the sixth planet from the Sun and the second largest in the Solar System. Ac...
