Big Electric Push by Big Auto

Tesla, GM, Ford Charging Ahead Source:  Tesla Big SUV and Pickup Truck Green Driving Big news.  Tesla's all electric Cybertruck has picked up 200,000 orders in the three days following its launch in Los Angeles.  That's a big deal.  People love the sleek armored truck look and power of the electric muscle truck that is Tesla CEO Elon Musk's pet project.  Engineer Musk made the truck of the same steel he uses at Space X for his rockets. Buyers apparently forgave the faux paus of the bullet proof windows shattering twice when hit by a metallic ball at its debut.  Production on Cybertruck starts in two years.  Prices start at $40,000 and the vehicle has a battery range on the top class model of 500 miles.  Musk has some time to work on the shattered glass of the shatterproof windows. All Electric Pickup Wars GM just announced it will deliver an all electric pickup truck by fall of 2021.  Ford will deliver on an all electric pi...

All About Developing Expensive Electric and Autonomous Technologies Today's R&D innovation tie-up between Suzuki and Toyota is another leading example of the technology partnerships in the global automotive industry.  It's all about joining forc...

VW, Ford Close to Partnership

Image
Teaming Up to Develop Electric & Autonomous Cars Source:  VW Electric Concept Vehicle 2019 Big New Technology Combination VW and Ford are close to partnering on the development of electric and self-driving vehicles.  That according to VW CEO Herbert Diess.  The two companies have been in discussions for months. Diess told 500 of the company's top managers, gathered for a meeting at the company's headquarters in Wolfsburg, Germany that the talks are going very well and are just about complete. Counterweight CEO Diess called VW a "de facto Chinese focused" company. Last month, VW announced it would produce more than 22 million electric vehicles in the next ten years with half built in China.  Diess views the partnership with Ford as strategically important to gain more counterweight in the US.  Carmakers are finding the shift to electric powered and autonomous vehicles costly.  They are looking to add scale to spread out the cost.  The com...

E-Friendly, Airless Tires

Michelin & GM Innovation Partnership Source:  Michelin The Uptis - Reinventing Tires The Uptis is a non-inflating replacement for tires.  It eliminates the risk of blowouts and flat tires.  It's a new innovation created by GM and Michelin and is now in the prototype testing stage.  Michelin and GM expect to have it on the market for consumer vehicles by 2024. Fiberglass The tires are made from Michelin's patented, resin embedded fiberglass material.  Michelin and GM say the Uptis is a safer and more stable alternative to air inflated tires.  It also requires near zero maintenance.  The companies call it the next generation of airless wheel technology for passenger vehicles.  For a free Kindle borrow of my book "List of Best New Innovations", go to  amazon.com/author/ekane   ASIN: B07NTWC3FW E-Friendly The team points out that there are tremendous environmental savings.  Specifically by cutting the use of raw mater...

BMW Jaguar Innovation Alliance

Jointly Developing Electric Car Parts Source:  BMW Assembly Line Goal: Cut E-Car Costs Jaguar Land Rover and BMW are teaming up to jointly develop electric motors, transmissions and power electronics.  Their purpose is to reduce the cost of developing electric cars, make them more affordable and produce them more quickly.  The two companies say that together they can shorten development time and bring vehicles and state of the art technology more quickly to market. Energy Sources with Zero Emissions The global automotive industry is under pressure to develop zero emissions vehicles to clear tighter anti-pollution standards. It's difficult to maintain profit margins while costs are rising to make vehicles that are electric powered, offer autonomous driving and total connectivity.  BMW and Jaguar say this electric partnership will provide considerable cost savings.  Meanwhile, Fiat Chrysler and Renault are working on a $35 billion merger to cut costs a...

Innovation Spacecrafts   Source:  SpaceX Dragon 2 NASA, Boeing and SpaceX Vehicle Tests and Crewed Flights 2019 is shaping up to be a very exciting year for space exploration.  A couple of key tests and crewed flights of highly advanced spacecrafts.  In January, SpaceX is scheduled to launch its Dragon 2 spacecraft on its first test flight.  There won't be any crew onboard until the summer when the spacecraft will ferry two US astronauts to the ISS (International Space Station). This will be the first launch of US astronauts from US soil since July 2011.  The launch will be made from Cape Canaveral, FL. It's a NASA and SpaceX exciting and new innovation mission into space. Starliner Boeing is going to conduct an un-crewed test flight of its CST-100 Starliner in March.  The first manned flight will happen in August. This spacecraft has been designed in conjunction with NASA for low Earth orbits to accommodate 7 passengers or for a mix of cre...
