German Scientists Invent Remarkable Jellyfish Robot Source:  Max Planck Institute Big Potential for Medical and Environmental Applications Scientists at the Max Planck Institute in Germany have created a tiny soft, swimming robot inspired by jellyfish.  Just a few millimeters in size, it can perform a variety of tasks.  Besides swimming, it can transport objects, burrow, mix different fluids and leave a chemical trail behind it. Magnetic Force The robot is composed of a magnetic core connected to 8 bendable flaps that "swim" in response to the application of an oscillating magnetic field.  This type of robot has great potential for targeted medical treatment.  One example would be the tiny robot gliding through the human body to locate cancerous tissue and then treating it with targeted, timed medication.  And, the researchers say it can be used as a model to help understand how the changing environment is impacting jellyfish.  For a free K...
