Making Streets Smarter and Safer for Pedestrians and Drivers Source: TU Graz, Vienna Lots of Technology and Research Involved A team at TU Graz Vienna has developed a very smart traffic light that detects a pedestrian's intent to cross the street. This technology is so advanced it actually spots the person's intent to cross. The smart system automatically triggers the traffic control signal and then goes green for the pedestrian. The invention was commissioned by the city of Vienna. The technology is so complex with so many requirements it took two years to research and develop.
