MIT's New AI System Mirai Transforming Mammograms             Source: Stock AI, Mammograms & MIT's Regina Barzilay From a Cancer Diagnosis to a Potentially Breakthrough, New AI  This is the story of an MIT artificial intelligence expert who turned her personal challenge with breast cancer into a new AI system that can predict the dreaded disease up to 5 years before it occurs.  Forecasting the disease so far in advance enables possible early intervention, treatment and prevention.  The new AI could benefit millions of people.  About 8 years ago, MIT's Regina Barzilay endured the brutal side effects of chemotherapy, radiation and 2 lumpectomies to overcome her cancer. When she returned to work at MIT, she decided to use her AI expertise to battle breast cancer and save lives. Brand New AI System Barzilay has designed and developed an AI system called Mirai that predicts breast cancer up to five years before there is any sign of it.  Using hundreds of thousands of mammogr

Is It a Bus, Train or Both?

World's 1st Dual-Mode Bus-Train                                       Source:  Japan's DMV New Innovation From Japan Japan is putting into operation the world's first dual-mode vehicle (DMV), which is a bus that converts into a train.  The DMV is capable of driving on the road with its standard set of rubber tires.  And when it reaches its railroad destination, it can deploy its steel wheels to travel as a train on the tracks in just 15 seconds.  This 2-in-1 vehicle combination is now in commercial operation in coastal southern Japan.  It is being operated by the Asa Coast Railway Company and it is a world first in travel innovation. Tech Specs The vehicle is lighter in weight than most buses and trains.  The company says it operates on diesel fuel, but the light weight of the vehicle cuts down on emissions.  The vehicle can carry 21 passengers.  On the road, in bus mode, it can hit 62 mph.  On the tracks, in train mode, it can hit 37 mph.  The Asa Coast Railway Company exp

Incredible Flying, Foiling Kite Pod                                             Source:  Syroco Designed to Crush Sailing Speed Records Moonshot 1 is a totally new form of travel.  It's a flying, foiling, kite pod specifically designed to crush world sailing speed records.  It is the creation of French startup Syroco, founded by world champion kite surfer Alexandre Caizergues and technology veteran Yves de Montcheuil. With Moonshot 1, the two hope to smash the current 65 know (74 mph) sailing speed record set in 2012 by reaching 92 mph.  They've put together a team of naval architects, sailors and helicopter experts to create a breakthrough water-air flying machine that chases speed. Chasing Speed Designed to literally "chase speed" and smash records, Moonshot 1 is an innovative combination of kite, foil and a 20-foot, airplane-like pod that holds 2 pilots.  It flies a few feet above the water.  The kite powers propulsion and the foil steers and keeps the pod grounded

Vox's Vertical Takeoff & Landing Aircraft                                             Source:  Vox Aircraft Plane Can Land on Any Helipad - World First For the past 30 years, Chicago-based aviation company Vox Aircraft has been developing a unique, hybrid aircraft that takes off and lands like a helicopter.  The vertical takeoff and landing vehicle (VTOL) is now a reality.  It's a hybrid electric plane that can provide point to point travel at two to three times the speed of a helicopter.  And, the plane doesn't need an airport.  It can land on any helipad.  The company says that it is "the world's first hybrid aircraft".  Also of significance, it burns half of the fuel that a similarly sized rotorcraft consumes.  So, it enables greener flying. Tech Specs The plane has four turbofans embedded in the fixed wings for vertical takeoffs and landings.  It also has a single rear rotor that provides forward thrust. The hybrid power system is blended to accommodat

Snowbot - A Better Way to Shovel

World's First Autonomous Snowblower Let the Robot Do the Shoveling A new, intelligent robot, developed by China's Hanyang Technology Company's robotics group Hanyang Robotics, could make snow shoveling obsolete.  Snowbot is an intelligent, autonomous, robotic snowblower that can clear 1500 square feet of snow on a single charge.  Snowbot can scoop up and blow away up to a foot of snow.  It is totally autonomous and powered by electric motors.  It can be controlled with an app on your phone or by remote control.  And, unlike current snowblowers powered by diesel, Snowbot is totally emissions free.  The company says it is the world's first autonomous snowblower.  It can clean 1.3 feet of snow per second. Very Advanced Technology Snowbot actually creates a map of the area to be cleared of snow.  It uses 4, ultra-wide band positioning terminals.  Three of the positioning terminals stake-out the area to be cleared of snow and serve as transmitters to the robot.  The fourth i
