Scientist Ranier Mallol of the Dominican Republic almost lost his mother to dengue fever when he was a boy. He vowed to do something about the disease, carried by mosquitos, which infects 390 million people every year. He developed an AI algorithm that is a breakthrough. Aime Mallol fed the algorithm he developed statistics on dengue infections. The algorithm uses health, location, climate and socio-economic data to predict disease outbreaks three months before they happen. Its success rate is 88% accuracy.
