Porsche's New Electric Concept Cars
Porsche’s New Electric 718 & Mission R Concept Cars
Experts Expect a Dazzler in the 2025 Porsche 718
Porsche is teasing a
new, fully electric concept car, the 2025 Porsche 718 that is totally
electric. A precursor to it, the Mission
R racing car concept, was unveiled at the IAA Mobility 2021 in Munich. The Mission R is said to preview the 718 and may serve as a base prototype for the new 718
consumer car. Porsche is calling the 718 “The Most Modern Porsche”. It will have a front motor, making the
electric version of the 718 the first, all-wheel drive model. It will be sold
in both Boxster and Cayman forms. And it
will feature Porsche’s new electric front of very wide headlights. The only glimpse of the new concept that
Porsche has given is an image of a headlight. With this concept, Porsche
says that it is looking to the future "with cutting edge technologies
combined with breathtaking design", inspired by their 70 year history of
auto-making. This electric sports car is
green with zero emissions.
Lightweight Design
Porsche has made the EV
a standout model of lightweight design.
The target weight is less than 3,650 pounds. It is on a new sports car platform with many
of its components unique. The range on
the vehicle is a minimum of 250 miles but Porsche is working on extending the
range. Porsche expects the market launch
to occur in 2024 and it will come to the US in 2025.
Motorsports
In their social media
posts, Porsche mentioned motorsports with regard to the new concept, the
Mission R. They said motorsports provides the "toughest grounds for
engineering innovations on their way to series production". Experts
are speculating that this could be a new vehicle inspired by motorsports or an
experimental racecar with a fully electric powertrain. There is also
speculation that it could be a fully electric version of the 718 Cayman and
Boxster or a fully electric, new sports car.
Parade of EVs
Porsche has been rolling out new electric models. The 2021 Taycan 4S is fully electric and has been getting rave reviews. There are also plug-in hybrid versions of the Cayenne and Panamera. No one knows for sure what the 2025 electric Porsche 718 is going to look like and what its full range of capabilities will be, but it is sure to be electrifying. Porsche is owned by Volkswagen AG.
