Embraer's Eve Has Order Backlog of 1,785 eVTOLs

Green, Zero Emissions Urban Air Mobility

Brazil's aviation giant Embraer has a very hot eVTOL flying taxi subsidiary, Eve Urban Air Mobility, which is doing record business.  Eve, headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, FL, has an order backlog of 1,785 eVTOLs or electric vertical takeoff and landing vehicles.  That big backlog amounts to $5.4 billion in flying taxi orders.  And, at the 2022 Singapore Air Show, the backlog got bigger.  Eve has signed a number of new deals to make its eVTOLs operational in Australia by 2025.  Western Australia air charter companies Aviair and Helispirit, which specialize in scenic charter flights, have ordered 50 Eve eVTOLs.  Melbourne based helicopter company Microflite ordered 40 Eve eVTOLs.  Recently, Sydney Seaplanes ordered 50 Eve eVTOLs.  And Nautilus ordered 10 Eve eVTOLs for tourist flights over the Great Barrier Reef.  Eve UAM says Australia is poised to be one of the world's first urban air mobility markets.  Eve, itself, appears to be poised as a global leader in eVTOLs. 

Tech Specs

The Eve eVTOL is all electric, carries 4 passengers and a pilot and eventually will be fully autonomous with a 5-passenger capacity.  Range at the start of operations will be 100 km or 62 miles.  The company says the EV's operating cost will be 6 times less than that of a helicopter and it will have a noise footprint 90% less than that of a helicopter. Other key data includes:

• Anticipated top speed of 150 mph
• Cruising altitude of 2600 to 3300 feet, depending on final design
• Eight electric propellers with individual electric motors for vertical takeoffs and landings
• One or two rear ducted propellers for forward flight
• For landing, two helicopter-like skid landing gear.

Next Steps For Eve

Eve expects to go operational in several global markets by 2025 or 2026, including in Australia.  Ground testing of the electric aircraft is well underway.  Eve says the first test flights will come very soon.  The company is working on certification to fly in the US with the FAA, in Europe with EASA and in Brazil with their aviation authority.  Eve is also working with the government of Australia which supports urban air mobility and the development of air traffic management systems to support it.
