  • Scientists from Nottingham Trent University have found that being pleasant and facially expressive improves your negotiating skills.  Here's what we know:
  • Scientists at NTU found that facially expressive people are seen as more likeable and socially successful
  • Scientists analyzed 1500 conversations between strangers noting who was liked
  • Being facially expressive helps make you more readable and acceptable
  • Facial expressions also have a positive influence on conflict resolution
  • Bottom line:  Use of facial expressions makes us more likeable. And as we produce more facial movements than other species, we should take advantage of it instead of showing our poker face
  • Remember showing your Mom that puppy dog face when you wanted seconds on dessert?  You may want to dust off that look because it may cut a big deal for you in adult negotiations.
DARPA'S STUNNING QUANTUM LASER TECHNOLOGY

  • The US Defense Department's Advanced Research Projects Agency, DARPA, is developing a highly advanced quantum laser that could revolutionize military operations, autonomous driving and more.  Here are some key facts:
  • Quantum laser uses "entangled photons" to outshine conventional laser beams
  • Sees through extremely dense fog and over very long distances
  • Literally glues light particles together to generate highly concentrated laser beam
  • Why so important?  could have significant impact on military operations, lidar for autonomous cars, satellites and quantum computing
  • DARPA just awarded engineers at Washington University of St. Louis $1 million to continue to develop this new technology.

China's "Rocket With Wings" Passenger Plane

1 Hour Flight Beijing to New York City                                             Source:  China Transportation It Is Literally a Blast Chinese startup aerospace company Space Transportation's new space plane is being developed to carry passengers at speeds up to 2,600 mph in suborbital space to go from "point-to-point". That includes space tourism adventures and bullet-fast aircraft flights on Earth. The company says their new technology can fly passengers from Beijing to New York City in one hour. Space Transportation calls the new space plane a "rocket with wings".  They say it will be a fully reusable space plane with large triangular wings with rocket boosters. VIZR & Smartphone Advanced Display Source: VIZR Heads-Up Display Gadget VIZR is an advanced navigation display that grips to the car dashboard. You put your smartphone on VIZR and it turns your smartphone into a transparent display that lets you navigate and drive while never taking your eyes off the road.  The heads-up display (HUD) uses the same technology that fighter pilots use to stay focused.  The system offers a number of apps to view such as navigational tools like GPS, street maps, traffic conditions and speed. Distracted Driving Over 424,000 drivers are injured yearly by distracted driving.  For instance, by looking back and forth between a screen on the car seat and the road.  This new piece of smart gadget technology is designed to change the dynamic and enable the driver to navigate and keep their eyes on the road for greater driving safety.
