Second Unmanned Lunar Mission
Rover to Land at Unexplored South Pole
"Boldly going to where no country has gone before." That's the way the Indian Space Research Organization describes their second unmanned mission to the Moon within a year. It's set to lift off Monday, July 15 and will touch down on September 6 or 7.
Rover on Board
India will land a rover at the Moon's South Pole which is unexplored territory. The $141 million Chandrayaan-2 Mission is equipped to search for water, map the lunar surface and analyze minerals.
Bold Space Leadership
All of the technology for this space mission has been developed in India. The country is about to become the world's fifth largest economy. And the Indian government, with its space program, is building a space leadership position alongside the US, China and Russia. India plans to send a manned mission to space by 2022.
