Toyota's Latest Zero Emissions Auto Tech
Toyota has unveiled its all-new, all-electric SUV, the bZ4X which the world's largest automaker says will take us to a future "Beyond Zero". By "Beyond Zero", Toyota means zero emissions driving, that "not only reduces our carbon footprint to zero but also goes beyond to create a net positive impact" for Toyota vehicles. The 2023 bZ4X rolls out in mid 2022. The price hasn't been officially announced but experts think it will be in the high $30,000 to low $40,000 range. It's a new EV SUV of particular interest for Toyota advanced technologies and where it is taking the future of zero emissions driving.
Tech Specs
This new EV is all about advanced Toyota technologies built upon its growing portfolio of electric vehicles. The motor of the EV SUV is an AC synchronous electric generator powered by a lithium-ion battery with a total voltage of 355 V and total power of 72 kWh. It will be offered in both front wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions. The EV battery is designed to have 90% capacity after ten years of use. There is also new battery housing designed to withstand a collision from any angle.
Design Aspects
The design is smooth, bold and aerodynamic. There is a panoramic roof to draw in the environment, a spacious and connected interior, soundproofing glass and wind noise reduction features to make the ride quiet and smooth. The EV also has a driver focused panel design with what Toyota calls a "unique instrument panel and precisely placed MID screen" that keeps the driver's line of sight up and focused on the road. It is also loaded with intuitive technology that offers the driver interaction by voice, touch and sight. And yes, it is also off-road capable of zero emissions driving.
Toyota's Growing EV Lineup
The new Toyota bZ4X EV joins an extensive lineup of EVs for Toyota that will amount to 70 new EVs by 2025. At the moment in late 2021, EV sales account for 24% of all Toyota sales in the US. Toyota is clearly pushing hard on zero emissions electric vehicles and also hotly pursuing new hydrogen electric at the R&D development stage, as I have documented in very recent reports.
