SMART SOCKS - ELECTRONIC TEXTILES
Source: Nottingham Trent University
- Scientists in the UK have developed a smart sock that can detect that a person has taken a fall with 99% accuracy in real time
- It can also detect a near fall by a person with 94.2% accuracy
- This new smart, electronic textile technology is of great value to help monitor the elderly, hospital patients, nursing home and assisted living residents
- The wearable tech is composed of a small motion sensor embedded in a sock
- Bluetooth connects the sensor to a phone to alert family or health care professionals about the incident & an algorithm processes the data surrounding the incident in real-time
- The tech can also help prevent fails as having near falls is a precursor of having a real one
- This breakthrough, new smart tech is being developed at Nottingham Trent University in the UK & has been successfully tested on humans.
