DOG'S BEST FRIEND - WOMEN

Source: Eotvos Lorand University & Stock

  • The old adage "Man's Best Friend" has just been turned upside down by a university study from Budapest-based Eotvos Lorand University that demonstrates dogs listen to women more than men
  • Here's what we know:
  1. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scanners were used to analyze dogs' brain activity while men and women spoke
  2. Dog brain sensitivity increased when women directed their talk to the dogs
  3. One of the study's co-authors mentioned that women used more exaggerated prosody in talking to dogs than men do
  4. While monitoring their brain activity, dogs listened to recordings of dogs, infants and adult men and women
  5. Dogs brains responded most to dogs and infants
  6. Between women and men, dogs' brains responded first to women
  7. The researchers believe dogs respond better to higher pitched voices more typical of women
  8. They also found "exaggerated prosody" contributes to effective communications with family dogs
  • It looks like dogs' best friends are women and that dogs would likely prefer the adage "Women's Best Friend".
