Enhanced Patient Safety From Saudi Arabia

A team of engineers at KAUST - King Abdullah University of Science and Technology - have developed a smart pill bottle that is loaded with highly advanced technology.  The bottle sends a wireless alert on tampering, overdose or unsafe storage.  The alert is sent by a stretchy mobile sensor, which is a flexible computer.

Low Cost Sensors Protecting Patient Medication
The sensor is low cost and composed of two layers of copper tape with silver particles between them.  When the material is pressed, the copper layers make contact and send an electrical signal alert to an external reader.

Much More Tech in this Medical Gadget
The 3D printed lid counts the pills using light-emitting diodes.  An adhesive sensor monitors humidity and temperature inside the bottle.  Finally, the bottle is sealed with touch sensitive tape.  The sensor array detects if someone has opened the bottle and if the interior of the bottle has become dangerously moist.  Either triggers an alert sent by Bluetooth to cell phones.
