Los Angeles startup Portl has unveiled a new device that adds an epic, extra dimension to your Facetiming and Zooming video calls. The Portl M is a table-top piece of technology with the potential to totally revolutionize everyday communications, particularly during this time of ongoing pandemics greatly reducing in-person meetings and conversations.  Essentially, Portl M allows you and the person that you're talking with to be beamed into each other's home or office as a hologram.  On their website, the company says you can call it "telepresence".

How Does It Work?  With Artificial Intelligence Plus

Both parties on the videocall will need to have the M machine.  The machines can beam a 3-D image of each caller from one M to the other M.  The key to the process is M's artificial intelligence (AI) enabled cameras.  The AI camera tapes you and creates a video in 3-D, sends it to the other caller's M and generates the hologram of you in their home or office location and vice versa.  The M is the size of a mini fridge.  Experts think this could be the start of something big in remote, personal communications.  M is designed to make you feel that the person you're videoconferencing with is there with you at your location and that you are there with them.

Other Potential Uses

US Army Invention - Drone Defense Source:  US Army Drone Netting Device Drone Netting Grenade U.S Army researchers have created a 40 mm grenade to protect the armed forces from menacing, enemy or rogue drones.  The defensive drone grenade takes out the drone with a weighted net. Countermeasure - Net Bagging a Drone The net is spring loaded and ejects from the front of the grenade when it nears the drone target.  The net can be triggered remotely by a person on the ground or automatically by an onboard proximity sensor.
