Hyundai is Redefining the Future of Transportation
Hyundai's TIGER X-1 is a revolutionary new piece of robotic technology that is redefining the future of transportation. The vehicle is autonomous. It can drive as a four-wheel vehicle or walk on its four legs. It is designed to transport cargo and people to remote, inaccessible locations. Hyundai says that with TIGER they had to rethink vehicle design and development and redefine the future of mobility.
Highly Advanced Technologies
TIGER stands for Transforming Intelligent Ground Excursion Robot. Hyundai's New Horizons Studio developed it in partnership with Autodesk (California-based software & engineering company) and Sundberg-Ferar (Michigan-based industrial design company). TIGER is a concept vehicle with breakthrough capabilities. It has leg and wheel auto-motion capabilities and 360-degree directional control. It can provide remote sightings and observations through a series of highly advanced sensors. And it is capable of connecting with Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) for recharging and to be transported to inaccessible locations. The vehicle's four legs retract to allow it to drive as a four-wheeled vehicle. If it gets stuck while driving, it can convert to walking to extract itself from difficult terrain.
Next Steps
TIGER X-1 is the first experimental version of TIGER which Hyundai expects to put into global development. It is loaded with advanced technologies including generative design that pushes the boundaries of increasing the vehicle's strength without increasing its weight. It is composed of strong and lightweight carbon fiber. The vehicle is designed to operate in areas like natural disasters, remote locations for scientific study and in outer space. Hyundai says it 360-degree capabilities enable it to explore virtually any planet in space. TIGER appears destined to have a profound effect on the future of travel.
