All-Electric VW Family MicroBus
VW's ID Buzz is an all-new, all-electric minivan or microbus reminiscent of the popular VW Bus of the 1960's and 1970's. The Buzz sports distinctive styling, an all-electric powertrain and a range on a single charge of 275 miles. It is scheduled to come to market in Europe in the second half of 2022 and in North America in 2024 at a price estimated at $45,000. In the global automotive world, it is making a lot of exciting buzz.
Buzzing With the Environment
The microbus can carry 7 people and it is expected to have a great deal of appeal as a family vehicle. It is environmentally correct. It's made of sustainable and recyclable materials. Even the batteries are recyclable and do not contain cobalt which poses mining extraction issues of great concern to environmentalists and health experts. The EV is built on the same platform as the VW ID.4 and the Audi e-tron electric SUVs. What distinguishes Buzz is that it pays respect to the old VW bus while giving homage to the future of electric, zero emissions driving.
Tech Specs
It is expected that the first models of the electric minibus will have a single electric engine that pumps out 201 hp and 229 lb. ft of torque. A dual motor version with all-wheel drive is also in the pipeline. A large, 77-kWh battery is stored beneath the interior floor of the vehicle which opens up a lot of floor space for passengers.
Exterior and Interior Design
In terms of the interior, there are fully moveable seats and a moveable table. Cool touches include 10 color LED ambient lighting, a 10" digital driver's display and a 10" infotainment touchscreen embedded in the dashboard. Features like the displays can be upgraded in size. The exterior is very retro and evocative of the old VW bus. It comes in a number of colors - all organic-based paint - and can be ordered in a 2-tone version, harkening back to the original VW bus. All of these attributes and features included in the Buzz make it a unique, new entrant in the global EV marketplace, which could generate a wide group of buyers.
