SOCCER RIGHT OUT OF THIS WORLD
Source: Stock
- Soccer matches on the Moon by 2035; that's the forecast from a team of futurists at the UK's Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET)
- The team making the forecast for out-of-this-world football includes leading technologists, engineers and scientists
- Why have they done extensive research on this? NASA's 2025 manned mission to the Moon will bring lunar colonization much closer & that includes engineering everyday aspects of life, like the world's most popular sport
- They cite a number of innovations that will be needed to make soccer work on the Moon including:
- Shorter matches comprised of 4, 10-minute quarters with 20-minute breaks in between to let players rest in the harsh lunar conditions
- 1.5x bigger ball
- Smaller playing field - 8-times smaller than on Earth
- Expanded, higher goals because jumping is easier on the Moon
- Netted ground
- No contact sport because a collision in the Moon's no oxygen, near zero gravity conditions could be fatal
- Super flexible, airtight spacesuits for the players with oxygen, cooling & heating systems
- New helmets that enable communications between coaches & players, 180 to 270-degree views and Heads-Up displays to get referee decisions
- Referees represented by holograms on field
- Power of the soccer ball: ball going 70 mph will go 6-times the distance than on Earth because the Moon has virtually no air, no wind and 1/6th of the Earth's gravity
- All of which makes for an out-of-this world game by 2035!!!
- The IET scientists hope that the prospects of enabling soccer games on the Moon will inspire kids to excel at STEM.
APPLE's AI CHATBOT
- The development and acceleration in use of AI Chatbot just got exponentially more interesting with consumer electronics giant Apple entering the picture with its own AI model called Ajax
- Apple researchers have used Ajax to build their own AI chatbot called Apple GPT
- Ajax is a large language model that could challenge hot systems like OpenAI and Google's
- It's expected to offer the same types of capabilities that ChatGPT does but be sleeker, perhaps with even more functionality and likely will be more expensive
- Apple executives are developing a plan on how to release it to consumers
- News of this new AI system under development sent Apple shares soaring to an all-time high
- Apple has been quiet about this development but is big into AI, using it across its business and to empower the Siri voice assistant
- It's likely that the Apple GPT will be a blockbuster new piece of AI technology.
- Apple is currently testing the system.
AIRBUS' CLIMATE FRIENDLY ECO-JET FLEET
- France-based aerospace company Airbus has unveiled a concept design for a hydrogen powered, 100 passenger aircraft for Climate-friendly, sustainable, commercial air travel
- The plane will be able to instantly refuel at airports
- Here are the key facts:
- Powered by propellers, e-motors, liquid hydrogen tanks, hydrogen fuel cells, power electronics, cooling systems and a set of auxiliary equipment
- Fuel cells convert the hydrogen into electricity
- 6, 8-bladed propellers attached to removable fuel-cell engine pods for fast re-fuels
- Airbus will begin flight tests in next few years
- New green, zero emissions aircraft fleet will need aviation authority certifications
- Airbus believes in the future of clean, hydrogen-powered commercial flying and that the world is close to it.
