- It looks like a flying whale but Solar Airship One is an innovative balloon vehicle that's being prepared for a remarkable, 24,000-mile, nonstop flight to inaugurate a new form of zero emissions travel
- Developed by engineers in France
- Sun and hydrogen powered aircraft
- 3 pilots will guide it around the Equator west to east at an altitude of 19,685 feet
- Historic Equatorial flight is planned to happen within 2 years
- Vehicle has been 11 years in the making
- Composed of 15 individually controlled gas envelopes for extra control in rough weather
- Solar cells generate electricity with any surplus generating hydrogen through electrolysis
- Helium volume: 50,000 M3
- Solar film length: 51,666 sq. ft
- Plan is to make the vehicle fully autonomous
- Goal: fight climate change with this unique vehicle providing zero emissions travel.
CHINA MOVES TO OWN LEADERSHIP IN FLYING CARS
- In China, the world's biggest flying car company XPeng Aeroht, a subsidiary of automaker XPeng, has opened what is likely the world's 1st flying car ground transportation, comprehensive testing center
- Here are some key facts:
- Purpose is to research and validate new flying car technologies
- Components of the facility are comprehensive and impressive and are designed to give China leadership in flying cars
- There's a flying base to validate flying
- Comprehensive driving and ground technology testing facilities for strength, load, vibration, durability, environmental factors and materials
- Technologies for virtual simulations and real-world testing
- Powertrain experimental center for motors, batteries and high voltage electrical components
- This new center is a $500 million investment and it also has the backing of a consortium of investors
- It is a clear demonstration of China's belief in the future of flying cars and their goal to be the leader in the emerging market.
