HOW THE SOLAR ECLIPSE IMPACTS ANIMALS
- A solar eclipse has a significant impact on animals, unexpectantly turning their sunlight day into darkness. Here are some new scientific findings on the impact:
- Dogs can cower and be frightened
- Birds stop singing, stop flying and return to their nests, sensing the onslaught of nighttime
- Large animals stop roaming and go to sleep
- Scientists have documented strange and surprising animal behavior during eclipses:
- Around the world there are areas of serene silence as birds, insects and animals pause their chatter and daily activities
- Flamingos gather around their babies in a circle to protect them
- Zoo gorillas return to their dens
- In New England, a 500 citizen-scientist group led by Harvard University, during the last eclipse, found honeybees roaring their wings in their rush to get back to their hives, literally blocking the entrances
- Nocturnal birds like owls and whippoorwills started hooting and singing
- When nighttime comes in the middle of the day as it is in the US today, it has a profound effect on everyone, including animals birds and even bees
- Scientists and citizen-scientists are poised at zoos and animal habitats around the US today to document more animal reactions to this natural phenomenon.

Source: Skydweller
- US-based Skydweller Aero has successfully test flown its totally autonomous/unmanned and uncrewed, large solar powered plane for takeoffs, flying and landings. This is breakthrough aviation technology. Here are some key facts:
- This new plane operates autonomously with no pilot and no humans onboard
- It's called Skydweller
- Capable of 90 days of flying with no landings; maximum flight time by other planes has been 40 hours
- Unique design: it weighs less than a pickup truck and has a wingspan greater than a 747 aircraft
- Altitude max of 45,000 feet
- Maximum speed is 35 mph
- Expected to be used for surveillance, national security, cargo flights and disaster missions
- With its 90-day endurance capability, this new aircraft will be setting new milestones in green flying.
