Bipedal Locomotion - Hovers in Flight and Walks, Just Like a Bird
California Institute of Technology's Leonardo jumps, hovers and walks just like a bird.  This is major robotic innovation and breaks new ground.  Drones either walk or fly.  Leonardo does both with agility.  It has bipedal locomotion and is inspired by nature - birds.

Drone Hover Walk
This new drone relies on a pair of thrusters to keep it steady on its feet and to hover.  It makes agile motions over rough terrain because the thrusters improve and enhance the leg's performance by balancing the upper body. The drone can jump and fly short distances with bird-like agility.  It floats like a bird on its two legs. This is being called the drone hover-walker.

Big Utilizations
This major advancement in drone tech is designed for search and rescue missions on Earth and planetary explorations.  Leonardo stands for LEg ON Aerial Robotic Dr One.  Leo is 2&1/2 feet tall, 6 pounds and is still being tested with tethers.  It's a big robotic innovation.  For more news blogs, go to amazon.com/author/ekane  and I'll keep you updated on Leo.
