New App Enabled, Light Embedded Crosswalks
This is one of those innovations with an elegantly simple concept addressing a big global need.  An app-enabled, light embedded crosswalk that could prevent pedestrian, runner and bike accidents especially at night. The LEDs are embedded on the ground.  It's been innovated by researchers at Korea Institute.

Sensors and Electronics
The system involves a lot of sensors and electronics that provide dual warnings to drivers and pedestrians.  To alert drivers that there is a passenger on the road, there is a thermal imaging camera that detects people as they approach the crosswalk.  It triggers a row of LEDs embedded in the road.  As the car approaches, an electronic sign also blinks as a warning.

Pedestrian Alerts
For pedestrians, there are a number of alerts of a fast moving car coming toward the crosswalk.  There's an image projected on the ground in front of them.  There's also an audible alarm and their cellphone will vibrate and sound out an alert.  This is important innovation news for all of us.
