Your Car Using Your EKG, Fingerprints and Eye Pupils to ID & Monitor You
In the near future, cars will closely monitor your heartbeat, breathing rate, pupils, irises and fingerprints. The purpose is twofold: identify and authenticate the driver and monitor the driver and passengers' health. A lot of new technology is under development by new tech companies. Needless to say, many privacy issues need to be addressed before full deployment.
What This Enables
The future of keyless driving will be enabled by the technology under development. It also presents the possibility of your car as your health monitor, warning for instance of an impending heart problem. Tech company B-Secure has technology to identify people through their unique EKG, electrocardiogram readings. Your heart's EKG is as unique as your fingerprints and pupil. Their HeartKey steering wheel sensor is in line for 4Q 2019 production.
More Biometric Tech
Another company Harmon uses the eye pupil as an identifier. Yet another Faurecia is using radar and piezo detection tech to monitor heart and breathing rates. Again, this is all part of your smart car. This tech will extend to seat belts, consoles and more areas of your car.
Not Just Cars
The biometric tech that is now under development is going to extend well beyond cars. It will be deployed for monitoring in wearables, fitness trackers and beyond.
