MarsQuake
NASA Documents Seismological Activity on Mars
Interplanetary First
NASA's robotic probe InSight has detected and measured what NASA scientists believe is an earthquake, or what they term, a Marsquake, on Mars. InSight carried an instrument called a seismometer that can pick up tiny vibrations. The robot placed the instrument on the Martian ground. It picked up what they believe is the sound of a tremor on the surface of Mars.
Robotic Insight
This is the first time a likely seismological tremor has been documented on another planet. The Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California reported it this week. InSight will be operating on Mars for another 18 months.
