From Mercedes, A New Travel & Leisure Concept
A surprise from Mercedes-Benz: a new cutting edge travel and leisure concept vehicle. It's called the Citan and it's a micro camper that is just shy of 15 feet long but is loaded with top of the line features to make the off-road trips just a bit more luxurious. Why would Mercedes be interested in pursuing a business line in mini campers and motor homes?. They believe it is a valuable new business line of growth, given the pandemic and the desire by consumers to travel less into hotels and on airplanes and explore more unpopulated off-road spaces.
Citan
The new Citan is a mini motor home that's a concept vehicle and built for flexibility. It has two innovative furniture modules created with camping expert Van Essa. The modules can be installed as needed for cooking or sleeping spaces and then removed and stored, turning the vehicle back into a travelling van.
The Two Modules' Capabilities
The first module is the kitchenette that weights 132 pounds and Mercedes says it can be quickly and easily installed. It comes equipped with a gas cooktop. It also has a sink with a 3.4 gallon water tank and a small fridge. There is also storage space for pots, pans, dishes and spoons. The second module is a 3.8 foot by 6.2 foot bedroom with a "high quality" mattress. It can be stored above the kitchenette when not in use. That enables the van's rear seats to be used.
Tech Details
The 2022 Citan has semi-autonomous driving and the latest MBUS infotainment system with 7 inch displays. Customers can choose a 1.5-liter diesel or 1.3-liter gas engine or go fully electric soon. This vehicle rolls out in 2022. Mercedes-Benz says the leisure and travel vehicle industry are a growing and important part of their strategic business mix.
