The iconic British sports car brand MG, which is now owned by China SAIC, is developing an electric sports car, the MG Cyberster for the brand's 100th birthday in 2024.  They're calling it an "affordable sports car" and are targeting international markets with both left-and right-hand driving modes.  Judging from the concept car images and just released teaser production images, the beauty, aerodynamics and performance capabilities of the MG Cyberster look to be spectacular.  It could rival the immense popularity of its predecessor, the MGB sportscar of the 1960's.

Tech Specs We Know

What is most impressive is the EV's expected performance.  It will be powered by a "module-less" battery technology that has a claimed range of 500 miles on a charge.  That range is at the top of the list, beating Tesla.  The vehicle is expected to take an 80% recharge in 15 minutes.  It can go from 0 to 60 mph in less than 3 seconds.  It will be capable of Level 3 autonomous driving, be equipped with intelligent driving modes, contain 5G connectivity and "active-upgrading" technology which enables automatic technology upgrades over the air.

Design & Styling

The Cyberster is being designed and developed at SAIC's London design center.  It is true to its MGB heritage and is being called a European car.  It's a 2-door, 2-seat electric sports car with the MGB "Magic Eye" headlights that open when turned on.  The headlights sit on top of the black grill, called the "Windhunter". It has distinctive scissor doors. The EV is aerodynamically designed for speed and style.  There's a fabric roof that electronically folds for easy conversion to a convertible.  The vehicle is sleek and very futuristic looking.  MG says it captures MGB's sports car DNA and is very technologically advanced.

Very Classy Interior

The interior of the Cyberster is awesome.  Behind the F1-styled steering wheel is a triple screen display.  It's similar to a gaming computer set-up.  MG calls it a gaming cockpit with interactivity, advanced connectivity and a large LED instrument cluster.  The Cyberster has all the makings of a big automotive hit.  It goes into production in late 2023.  For more news stories like this, Daily Vehicle Briefing
