What Looks Like Hyundai's Newest Electric Winner

Hyundai is on a roll right now.  Thanks to the Ioniq 5 SUV EV and the Kia EV 6 crossover (Hyundai owns Kia), Hyundai is now the 2nd biggest seller of EVs in the US.  Now, the South Korea based automotive giant has just unveiled its new EV Ioniq 6 to rave reviews. One automotive expert called the upcoming 2024 Ioniq a "knockout".  The EV sedan debuts after Hyundai's wildly successful Ioniq 5, which is one of the brand's top new EVs.  The Ioniq 6 has very smooth lines and is sculptured for aerodynamic driving.  The design is being called the perfect combination of future and retro.  The curvaceous roof, shoulder and window lines taper into the vehicle's tail. It is reminiscent of the aerodynamic automotive styling of the 1920's and 1930's but with smooth, futuristic lines and details.  It will be available for sale in 2023 for the 2024 model year.  It is expected to be relatively moderately priced at around $45,000. This vehicle is designed to specifically take on the very popular Tesla Model 3, Tesla Model S and Mercedes EQE.

Style & Substance

The interior of the car is being called a masterpiece that's spacious and minimalist. It's decorated with geometric patterns and lots of LED "mood" lighting.  In fact, there are 64 different light colors to choose from to set the right tone for the driver and passengers.  The interior is very "green" with recycled PET fabrics, eco-process leather seats, bio-paint (inside & out) and carpets made of recycled fishing nets.  The front dashboard contains a 12-inch infotainment panel and 12" digital cluster.

What We Know About the Tech Specs

Hyundai hasn't disclosed much but the EV is expected to be built on the E-GMP powertrain.  That's the same platform being used for the Ioniq 5 and other Hyundai and Kia EVs, so the range should be about 310 miles on a charge.  It is likely to be powered by a 58-kWh or 77.4-kWh battery. It is expected to have three power levels:  170 hp, 218 hp and 306 hp. The side mirrors have been replaced by cameras. The headlights are flashy with light bars or pixels at the base.  Hyundai has disclosed that it has a drag coefficient of 0.21 which is one of the best and lowest ones on the market.  The Ioniq 6 appears to be a blockbuster of a new car that is coming to showrooms next year.  For more news like this, Daily Vehicle Briefing
