  • Scientists are translating complex molecular language in plants.  Here's what we know:
  • Research is being done at Purdue University on petunias
  • Their vocabulary is hidden in countless proteins and other compounds within the cells
  • Plants send warnings to one another via scent chemicals
  • For example: Plants routinely inform their neighbors if they are being attacked by a pathogen through scent chemicals called volatile organic compounds
  • In addition to communicating with these volatile organic compounds, the compounds (volatiles) also sterilize the stigma to protect the plant from pathogen attack
  • In addition to Purdue, other researchers include those from UCAL-Davis and Universite Jean Monnet Saint-Etienne
  • The research is being funded by among others The National Science Foundation.

  • Investors are pouring money into industry specific AI projects.  Example:  AI bots serving as virtual AI nurses in patient care.  Here are some key facts:
  • AI nurses doing virtual checkups on patients are being tested as part of a partnership between chipmaker Nvidia, health care startup Hippocratic AI and 40+ health care providers
  • These AI bots bill at $9-per-hour
  • They perform low-risk, non-diagnostic work like nutritional guidance, post-operative check-ins and pharmacy calls
  • They are designed to help relieve the long-term shortage of nurses in the US
  • They also could save significant health care money
  • Investors are taking notice
  • Hippocratic AI is valued at $500 million.
