  • Breakthrough new research demonstrates that 8 healthy habits, called "life medicine" can add up to 24 years to your life if start by middle age.  Here's what we know:
  • The US Department of Veteran Affairs and leading researchers have studied the life habits of 720,000 US veterans 40 years and older
  • They spotted 8, therapeutic lifestyle habits associated with a healthier and longer life, including
  1. No smoking
  2. Regular exercise and healthy weight
  3. Good, healthy, plant-based diet
  4. Good sleep hygiene
  5. Moderate, not excessive, drinking
  6. Positive social relationships
  7. No addiction to opioid drugs
  8. Good stress management
  • The researchers call the 8 habits "lifestyle medicine" that addresses the underlying causes of chronic disease not the symptoms
  • The 8 habits extended the lives of men and women who started them at middle age by 24 years and 23 years respectively
  • This study was just presented to the American Society of Nutrition's annual meeting in Boston.

US MILITARY EXPLORES IMPROVEMENTS IN MARITIME ENVIRONMENT WITH REGENT'S SEAGLIDER

  • The US Marine Corp has contracted with Rhode Island-based Regent to increase its maritime capabilities.  Here's what we know:
  1. The Seaglider concept combines elements of a hydrofoil ship with a wing-in-the-ground aircraft
  2. At a low altitude it moves rapidly over water
  3. The Marines did a $4.75 million deal with Seaglider to demonstrate the vessel
  4. The all-electric vehicle operates exclusively in the water
  5. It can take-off from the water, then transition into ground effect flight a few years above the surface
  6. It's said to have the speed of an aircraft with less defense vulnerability
  7. Takes less pilot training time
  8. USMC will test Seaglider's capabilities to fulfill their logistical maritime goals and its potential in military operations.

  • Researchers have created an algorithm using GPT-4 that empowers robots to learn much faster.  Here's what we know:
  1. New GPT-4 algorithm was created by Nvidia, UPenn, Caltech and University of Texas at Austin researchers
  2. Called Eureka
  3. When overseeing training, it enables robots to learn much more quickly
  4. They're using it to rapidly teach robots dexterity moves like picking up a pen
  5. Essentially, Eureka is a hybrid AI system that blends 2 learning models - a low level neural network for robot motor control and a large language model GPT-4 that rapidly accelerates robot training time.
