2019: Year of Space Renaissance
New International Space Race Innovation
Global Explorers
2019 may go down in history as the year of the greatest global accomplishments in space. The young year is already off to a tremendous start.
NASA's New Horizons
NASA's spacecraft New Horizons just performed a fly by around the cosmic rock Ultima Thule at the farthest distance into outer space ever reached. The unmanned spacecraft is transmitting data about Ultima Thule which is 4 billion miles above the earth and beyond Pluto. Ultima Thule means "beyond what is human to see". New Horizons is now heading on its way to Pluto.
Virgin Galactic
Sir Richard Branson says his company Virgin Galactic will start carrying space tourists to the edge of space in 2019. His highly innovative system has been successfully tested multiple times. In mid-December, the spaceship Unity was successfully launched 51 miles into space. The 2 pilots at the controls landed it safely back in California. The new era of space vacations is about to begin.
Space X
Elon Musk's Space X rockets will be carrying US astronauts to the International Space Station in 2019 for the first time. Musk has plans for trips to the moon and the colonization of the Planet Mars. His plans are aggressive and methodical with test flights on the spacecraft scheduled this year.
China's The Chang'e 4 Historic Lunar Mission
China has made space history. Its spacecraft The Chang'e 4 is making a soft landing on the far side of the Moon. That has never been accomplished before. The spacecraft contains a rover for exploring the surface and terrain. And the mission prepares the way for a manned mission to the moon in a few years.
International Space Programs
There are many emerging players in the global space race. They include India, Japan, Europe, China, Russia, NASA, Australia and the United Arab Emirates, all with very innovative programs in gear. For more news stories on innovation and exploration, go to amazon.com/author/ekane
