The Electric Tractor-Trailer

Eco Friendly Big Rig

18 Wheeler, ET-One
It's a very sleek electric big rig with zero emissions.  ET-One is a formerly fuel-burning truck that Los Angeles based start-up company Thor has converted into an all electric road warrior that's good for the environment.  The technology developed to do this conversion has been cited as one of the top 50 innovations of 2018.

Air Pollution
There are more than 3 million tractor trailers on US highways, spewing millions of tons of carbon pollution every day.  The ET-One can haul up to 80,000 pounds 300 miles on a single charge.  A regular semi can carry the same weight but has much greater range.  ET-One costs $150,000 plus and is still in the prototype phase.

Crowded Roads
Several companies are developing all electric semi trucks including Tesla.  But Thor is doing something different.  They're partnering with established manufacturers and converting fuel burning models to electric.  Thor's strategy is to get to market now to make an environmental difference, not ten years from now.  Finally, Thor leadership says they're more than green.  They claim their tech can cut truck ownership costs by 30% and maintenance costs by up to 60%.  For more news stories on innovation, go to amazon.com/author/ekane
