DAILY INNOVATION BRIEF
By Journalists Edward Kane & Maryanne Kane
- Los Angeles-based Channel 1 aims to be the 1st nationally syndicated news network in the US using AI avatars as their primary news anchors. Here are some key facts:
- Channel 1 plans to launch in 2024 as the world's 1st AI-powered news network
Founded by producer and director Scott Zabielski and tech entrepreneur Adam Mosan
- Will be staffed by AI avatar news anchors created from scans of real people with digitally generated voices
- Also will have some real human journalists and news anchors as part of the news mix
- News will come from three sources: traditional news operations, commercial free-lance journalists and AI-generated news from public records and government sources
- Channel 1 plans to have its own app and take the operation global
- App will eventually be able to personalize and individualize the news feed based on the individual viewer's interest
- This is a look at the future of news, which I as a journalist find fascinating but also troubling because of AI's not yet mature point of development in terms of facts and the potential impact of diminishing the value of human journalists
- As in many professions, the use of AI is inevitable, but my question is: is it ready to provide each of us with what we journalists call "a mirror that reflects clearly on reality"?
- Let's be honest! All of us love our dogs and think they are very special and really smart, because they mean so much to us. New science will help you tell exactly how smart they are. Here are a some key facts:
- Experts at ELTE University in Budapest have identified 3 key characteristics to determine that your beloved dog is truly gifted
- Can they learn a new toy name in 30 minutes?
- Have they mastered 50 names in 2 years?
- Do they know the names of 15+ of their toys?
- If they do they are a very rare Gifted World Learner (GWL) dog, which means you have an extraordinarily smart dog
- Scientists found border collies are the top intellectuals but many other breeds are competitive including poodles and corgis
- Some advice from the ELTE scientists to find and nurture a really smart dog:
- Buy from a breeder
- Bring the puppy home by ten weeks
- Have just 1 dog in a household of 2 adults to focus on its development
- Have it spayed or neutered
- Don't know about you but my dog Brewster is so smart he seems to "outfox" me royally without any scientific proof!
